Price of Date

$18 for Starbucks

The Deets

After dating for a few months, while sitting on a bench in his arms, looking out towards the ocean at Werribee; I was the first to say “I love you” to my David.

This day, a few months later, we came back to “our bench” where our little love story started and stayed until the night air came in.

Sometimes, it’s not the big fancy fun and expensive dates we need. On this day, just being together, sipping our drinks as we took in the sunset was just as good for the soul.

The Deets

We got to The Capitol just in time to grab our seats. This venue was pretty roomy with comfortable seating and a beautiful ceiling of lights. I sat next to a lady whom was brave enough to come by herself but whom didn't laugh at a lot of the jokes.

There was an awesome line up of First Nations comedy talent including Janty Blair, Sean Choolburra, Elaine Crombie, Jay Wymarra, Andy Saunders and the MC for the night was my fave comedian of all time - Kevin Kropinuri!

Walking out of the venue, my stomach hurt from laughing. We stayed a while after the show talking to comedians Ben Moodie and Leon Filewood before we all parted ways to go home.

Acknowledge Diss

Price of Date

$25 per person

The Deets

Last night David and I went to see Leon Filewood and Tim Moodie's Acknowledge Diss show at the Trades Hall in Carlton.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival has now well and truly kicked off and while we have some of the best Comedians in the country, I like to show solidarity for our first nations comedians whom we don't get to see otherwise.

David and I enjoy comedy and are members of The Comics Lounge  in North Melbourne and go at least once a month. But in the two years we've been members I am yet to see and indigenous act.

Last night, David was pretty much the only white boy in the crowd and had his ass handed to him on a black platter by Ben Moodie! Luckily, my man can hold himself and take a joke. He actually found Ben's jokes funny.

What made the night even more fun was the laughter in the front row and the laughter coming from behind us. I feel like it made me laugh even more!

After a tough week of work, I know I needed some self care, some time away, just David and I. Doing the work that I do as an Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing and Outreach worker for elders with Chronic Health including end of life care, I was just exhausted after putting in hours and hours of the best of me to the point that I was just done.

Finding this place of rest was such a blessing.

David and I stayed just the one night, watching the football from our spa.

This was one of my most favorite dates to date!

The Deets

Today we spent some time out on a Sunflower Farm. For a beautiful 30 degree day it actually wasn't that busy. The trip down the back dirt roads and paddocks left the car pretty dusty and sharing the narrow road with oncoming cars was a bit of a mission (especially in the dust) but once there that was all forgotten about.

David and I got a photo and a photo there throughout he day, there were tractors to take photos beside, their were hay bales to sit on, there was even a face in hole sunflower.

The walk down to the sunflower field had flies wanting every ounce of our sweat.

The sunflowers were absolutely gorgeous, standing tall with their big beautiful yellow petals facing towards the east.

David had me pick him the first sunflower that stood out to him which was sort of close to the one I chose first.

With our sunflowers in hand, we took another few pics and then made our way up to pay.

The farm also offered toilets, drinks and even sunflower stubby holders.

Melissa - It was a first for me so I enjoyed it. The flies come in a flock to feed on your face, one even went in my mouth. The sunflowers were beautiful and there were other cute couples and families there. I'd love to go again next year so I'd definitely recommend the visit.

David - It was good, it was nice to pick our own, it was hot and the flies were annoying but people should go if they like flowers. The people who run it were very nice and polite. And I liked the goats.

Last night we went to one of our favorite date places. The Comic's Lounge in North Melbourne. We purchased a membership ticket on our first visit and have been around 6 times in total now. Sometimes we stay in a hotel nearby so we can enjoy a few more drinks than usual but most of the time we drive in and drive out. We fill a tray before we take our seats with Popcorn, Choc Tops, Drinks and a cup of ice. I like their mac and cheese croquettes and David likes a bowl of their chips. We have seen acts from Dave Hughes, Tommy Little, Neel Kolhatkar and many others. Last night the highlight acts were Bart Freebairn, David Rose, Ashley Fils-Aime, Carl Connolly with awesome hosting by Ben Lomas!

The Deets

Saturday just gone, David and I drove into the city for our Monopoly Dreams Experience. I didnt know what to expect but was excited to be spending another date together just the two of us. My David loves Monopoly and plays it on his phone regularly and I own The Lion King Edition because lets face it, it's The Lion King!

When playing I am always the ship and Davis is either the dog or the car.

The Monopoly Dreams date went well, it had us playing interactive games, learning new things about the different monopoly boards they've developed over the years and there were plenty of places to take photos with props.

This date is so worth the money spent!

As we went along, we used a QR code to play the games and won monopoly money including being in a cash grab machine for 30 seconds with monopoly money blowing everywhere for you to potentially catch.

At the end, your money accumulated through the different games is exchanged into AU$ in which you can spend at the Monopoly Cafe or Gift Shop afterwards.
